about Amvest Terraden
Focused Capital for a Resource-Secure Future
Amvest Terraden seeks to generate returns from investing in the critical materials sector, a cornerstone of modern industry and innovation.
We focus on companies exploring, developing, and mining strategic minerals essential for technologies spanning advanced manufacturing, energy storage, transportation, and national defense.
Our investment philosophy ensures that our portfolio remains entirely independent of the Chinese value chain.
Why This
Sector Matters
Critical minerals are indispensable to the global economy, enabling advancements across industries. They power electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, defense technologies, consumer electronics, and telecommunications. These materials are essential for manufacturing batteries, aerospace components, high-performance magnets, and more.
Despite their importance, the supply chain for critical minerals faces major challenges, including underinvestment in mining and exploration, geopolitical pressures, and surging global demand. Solving these issues is vital to ensuring economic resilience, technological progress, and resource security.
Amvest Terraden focuses on companies operating exclusively within the Western (non-Chinese, non-Russian) value chain, supporting the development of secure, sustainable supply chains for these essential resources.
What Are
Critical Minerals?
Underpinning today’s most vital technologies, critical minerals are defined by three key characteristics:
Structural Demand Growth: Critical minerals benefit from long-term, secular growth driven by electrification, digitization, and industrial innovation.
Constrained or Concentrated Supply: Production is often controlled by a single country or a limited number of producers, exposing supply chains to geopolitical and market risks.
Limited Substitution Potential: With current technologies, replacing these materials without sacrificing performance or efficiency is difficult or impossible.
Accordingly, the sector can be divided into three primary segments:
Rare Earth Elements: A group of 17 elements essential for producing permanent magnets, optoelectronics, and specialized industrial processes.
Battery Materials: A class of minerals used in energy storage and transportation technologies. Includes lithium, graphite, cobalt, nickel, manganese, and vanadium—key inputs for electric vehicles and grid-scale batteries.
Specialty Metals: Critical for both civilian and military applications. Notable examples include tungsten, antimony, gallium, germanium, titanium metal, fluorspar, beryllium, high-purity alumina, high-purity quartz, boron, cesium, bismuth, tin, indium, and tellurium.
Our Vision:
Driving Innovation, Resilience, & Sustainable Growth
We are focused on the redevelopment of the Western value chains – which can only happen through capital inflows mining, refining, and processing. We select the most promising investments that will support the industrial renaissance of the functioning West and its allies.
In 2022, we saw what others ignored: China’s monopoly over strategic minerals would collide with Chinese Communist Party policy and ignite a crisis in supposedly “oversupplied” markets. We built our investment strategy around these overlooked metals that are the indispensable workhorses of 21st-century technology: AI, robotics, semiconductors, quantum computing, aerospace, and defense.
